This is my second self-isolation blog post for today, and this time it is a piece of abstract art I made using things I found in my garden. It is inspired by the Maori Korowai cloaks. They used feathers for their traditional cloaks but I used leaves because I didn't have enough feathers. They are made by layering lots of feathers to make a really cool texture.
Here it is.
I made it using: tape, paper, and fallen leaves. At first, I tried using glue to stick the leaves to the paper, but that didn't work very well because the glue wouldn't dry, so instead I taped the leaves to the paper which worked heaps better. It took a while to make but I am really happy with the results. Have you heard of korowai cloaks? If not google them because they are really cool.
See you later!
Daisy this is beautiful and so very creative! It is amazing what a few dead leaves can achieve. Autumn is such a cool time of the year with all the leaves changing colour and falling. I especially like going to Central Otago to see the colours of the trees - have you every seen them?
ReplyDeleteThis is great- I love the way you have likened it to the Korowai- are you in Korowai house?!
ReplyDeleteI was running in Bottle Lake this evening and was amazed by the beautiful colours all around. Autumn is my favourite part of the year for this very reason. I look forward to seeing what else you get up to over the next few weeks. Mrs D/Caz :o)
Kia ora Daisy!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading your blog post about your art work inspired by a korowai cloak. You are so creative! I am looking forward to going for long walks during the lockdown in Hagley Park which is so beautiful at the time of year! One thing you might like to try is to take a picture of each stage next time you make an art work. Sort of "Art work by Numbers".
I follow "that cheese plate" on Instagram, and she posts a picture of each stage of these amazing cheese platters for people to copy.
