Ordering a Burger

 Howdy folks!

This week we have been doing some extra tasks in the afternoon this is my second one. My first one is already on my blog. For this task we had to make an animation of someone ordering a burger in maori. Here it is.

Thats all for this week!

Timmy the Time Twister

 Howdy folks,

This week in the afternoon we have a ako sheet and we have to complete some of the activities. The one I chose to do today is where you make a superhero or villain. My character is a villain and he is called Timmy.

Timmy can twist time by shooting time twisting gas out of his hand. He gained his powers by breaking a cursed clock.

Bye readers!

Korowai or Kakahu

 Hello Readers,

This week for Inquiry we have been learning about the New Zealand culture. We have been learning about the traditions, culture, customs, and heritage. We have been learning about how traditions have changed over time, this could be due to technology or just practicality. We got to choose between some traditions and write about how they changed. Here is my slide.

Thanks for reading!

See you next time.

My Holiday

 Hello Readers,

In the recent school holidays I went up to Waikanae to see my Nana. My cousins also went up there and it a fun holiday. We drove up there and took the ferry. It was a very long drive and I watched a lot of movies.

While we were staying in Waikanae we drove to Wellington to go shopping, I spent my birthday money on a skateboard and now I'm trying to teach myself to skate. I haven't learnt any tricks yet but I have mastered turning. I also bought roller skates with my birthday money and I'm very excited to get rolling.

In the holidays I also went ziplining for my birthday with my friend Kasey. It was very fun and scary because we were 150m in the air. We don't have any photos of us on the zipline but here are some photos from the website.

Thanks for reading, have you been on the ferry?

See you later

Percy the Penguin

 Hello Readers,

This week the art extension group at my school have been painting a penguin fro the Christchurch treasure hunt. A few years ago there were giraffes all around town and there was a challenge to find them all. This time there are going to be penguins. Our school had the opportunity to paint one, we named them Percy.  The theme we chose for him was New Zealand. So we brainstormed some ideas and sketched and then drew them on the penguin. The last week we have been painting him every lunchtime and morning tea trying to get him finished. Yesterday we finished him except for the outline which our teacher will complete. Some of the things on him include: our school logo, kiwi, fantail, koru, Longest Drink in Town, Marmite, poppies, beehive and many more.

Thanks for reading, what animal do you hope is next?

See you later

My story: Nelly and Nina go too Far

 Howdy folks!

At the start of this term we got a new student teacher, they taught our literacy group about children's books and in week 5 we made our own story. I drew all the illustrations myself. Here it is.

Did you like my story? Who's your favourite character, mines the teacher!

Maori Games: Pukana

 Hello Readers,

Last Friday we were put into groups and had to make a poster with a qr code for a video of your group playing the game. It was quite hard to explain how to play with words so I was happy we could make a video also to further explain the game. Here is my poster.

I think the games were very fun to play but making the video was quite hard because we didn't get to choose our own groups. That's all for this post!

See you later!

Matariki Animals

Hello Readers,

For this blog post, I made the stars in the Matariki cluster relate to animals and I painted them.
Here is a photo.

The names mean-
Waipunarangi = sky spring, I chose a Springbok because they 'spring' and are jumping in the sky.
Waiti = sweet water, I chose a jellyfish because they live in the water and are one of my favourite animals.
Waita = sprinkle of water, I chose a frog because they like the water but aren't an underwater animal.
Matariki = eyes of Tawhirimatea, I chose an owl because they are known for their bright, bold eyes.
Ururangi = entry to the heavens, I chose an angelfish because they have angel in their name.
Tupu-a-rangi = sky tohunga, I chose a giraffe because they live up in the clouds.
Tupu-a-nuku = earth tohunga, I chose a pig because they love mud and the ground.

Thats all for today! See you later.

This Weeks Work

Hello Readers,

This blog post is a combination of some work I did this week.

This term we are building rockets in groups to learn more about Newton's Laws of Motion. For the first week we did a Tic-Tac-Toe activity to introduce us into space. For one of the option we had to make a space landscape artwork. I made mine on Procreate, here it is.

In Literacy this week we have been focusing on the genre Film Noir, For this activity, we compared a Film Noir example we found to an example from another genre. I used Double Indemnity and Sherlock BBC, and wrote down some similarities and conventions. Here is my slide.

That's it for this week! Bye.

Southern Lights/Aurora Austarlis

Howdy folks!

Today we have been learning about the Southern Lights as part of our Matariki this year. The southern lights are lights that occur when particles from the sun speed towards our magnetic field that surrounds the Earth at 750 km per second. Only some of the particles make it through the field and they react with the nitrogen and oxygen atoms and create the beautiful light effects in the sky. There are Northern and Southern Lights with the Northern appearing in the Arctic and the Southern appearing in Antarctica, the Northern Lights are also called 'Aurora Borealis' and the Southern Lights are also called 'Aurora Australis'. The lights are very unpredictable and usually appear during Autumn and Winter season, they are normally green but can have pink, violet, blue, and red. The name Aurora comes from the name of the Roman goddess of dawn.
For our art, we first ripped up a piece of scrap paper to create the mountain range shape. After that, we taped it onto a black A4 piece of paper. Then we took white paint and splattered it onto the black part. Then we waited for that to dry, after that we put chalk on the scrap paper then smudged it upwards to create the light effect. Last our teacher sprayed hairspray on it so it set.

That's all for this blog post, have you seen the Southern or Northern Lights?

See you next time!

Binary/Ascii numbers

Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.

Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.  You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!  Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers, and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s, my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

What do you think?  Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?  Could you have a try for yourself?  Can you work out how to write my initials in ASCII from the pattern above?

Meaningful Artwork

Hello Readers,

On Tuesday I found a piece of meaningful artwork and had to write a paragraph about it and why it is ironic. Here it is.

Samoan Siapo Cloth

Hello Readers,

Today I finished my siapo cloth design. One of the oldest and most important traditions of Samoa is the Siapo or Tapa.  It is a type of cloth made from the bark of the mulberry tree.  It is very time-consuming, because the bark must be harvested, stripped, separated, scraped, and beaten before it can be used.  It is then laid out in the sun to dry.

That's all for this blog post!

Ironic Comic

Hello Readers,

Today's blog post is my ironic comic. It had to demonstrate one of the three types of irony; situational, verbal, and dramatic. I made my comic with my buddy India, here it is.

This is situational irony because it is the opposite of what you expect to happen. When she says she likes jellyfish you definitely wouldn't expect her to get stung so it's ironic.

Do you know all three types of irony?

See you next time!

Literacy This Week!

Hello Readers,

For literacy this week I have been continuing on with my website. I have now written 2 and 1/2 of my 9 T-E-X-A-S's. Here is a screenshot of my THEMES page.

That's all! I can't wait until my website is completed!

See you later!

Koru Art

 Hello Readers,

Today in the morning we made our koru art. Our art for the term is making a 'bone' koru carving necklace, except ours isn't made out of bone. Last week we had to make a pastel drawing of a koru design. And this week we designed our necklace out of PlayDoh. My actual one is the left one. It represents freedom because it's a bird made from the korus.

That's all for this blog post! Which one is your favourite?

See you next time!

First Week Back at School

Hello Readers,

It's the first week back at school and I have a blog post sharing all my work this week.

For Literacy this week we have been creating a website that analyses The Wizard of Oz. We have to have a section for themes, symbols, and characters. In each section we have to pick 3 themes/symbols/characters to analyze and explain why it is important to the story. This is replacing our essay this term so instead of doing 1 big essay we are doing 9 mini
T-E-X-A-S's. I am making it using Googe Sites, I have not completed my website because it is due in 2 weeks, but here is a screenshot of the home page.

For Numeracy this week we have been learning to check our answers using Python. This means we just enter our equation into Kaggle and it tells us the answer, it is slightly harder than it seems because you have to make sure everything is in the right order otherwise it will be wrong. Here is a photo of a few of my equations.

That's it for this week's blog post! Do you like the idea of writing a website or do you prefer essays?

See you later!

The Last Week of Online School

Hello Readers,

This blog post is going to be special because it is the last day of online school. This means I will show all my favourite tasks from the week, for each subject. I'm pretty sad that online school is ending because I loved learning from home but I am excited to see my friends.

My favourite literacy task this week was when we had to design our own flying minion; like the flying monkeys from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I made a ram looking thing with really scary horns. Here is a photo of my drawing.

My favourite numeracy task this week was from Monday. We learned about adding and subtracting fractions, which I find easy, but after we did the problems we had to do an escape room on google forms. I liked doing the calculations but the escape room was confusing and I didn't enjoy it.

For my tech task I designed a bedroom using Minecraft. I chose to use Minecraft because it is fun and I am used to building on there. Here is a photo.

For my Friday task I drew a round animal. We had to draw it and then describe what it can and can't do anymore. Here is my drawing and description.

That's it for today! What are you going to miss about online school?

See you later.

Online School - Friday Tasks

Hello Readers,

This week's blog post is all about todays activities; a star wars themed board game for tech, and a colourpush art collage.

The first one I completed was the colourpush art. It gives you 90 seconds to swirl around colours. It seems super easy and like you cant mess up but I did many that didn't look so good. Here are my best ones.

The next one I did was a board game for tech. I made it star wars themed just for fun. I had nothing to make game pieces out of so I used scrunched up foil. Here is a photo.

That's it for this week's blog post! Which colour art is your favourite? Mine's the bottom right.

See you next time!

Online School - Term 2 - Friday Tasks

Hello Readers,

From now on I will be posting once a week with either that day's work or my favorite tasks from the week. Today I will be showing what I did today! Also if you saw my last blog post you would know I made an android for one of my activities, I came second in this competition which means mine will be 3D printed when we get back to school. Today we had to do one tech activity and one FRIYAY activity.

The first one I did was the tech one; there was a list of different tasks and I chose one where you had to the recycled old fabric. I made an octopus using a sock by cutting the toe part off the sock and stuffing it. Then I sewed around the opening and pulled it tight while tucking in the ends. Then I cut 6 circles from the remainder of the sock and repeated the process on them to make the tentacles. Then I hot glued on the eyes and mouth. Here it is.

The other task I did was where we had to make our own animal. I didn't really know where I was going with this so I just drew whatever I wanted. I ended up with this creature; I don't know what to call it. Here's a photo.

That's it for today's blog post, leave me name ideas in the comments!

See you next week!

Online School - Term 2 - Day 8

Howdy Folks!

Today's second blog post is actually about today's work, I did three activities; two Friday tasks and math task.

The first task I did was a piece of ANZAC Day craft; where I made milk bottle lanterns. First I cut up two milk bottles in half and threw away the part with the handle. Next, I sketched out a poppy onto a piece of paper and taped it to the inside of one of the milk bottle sides. Then I went over it with a sharpie on the outside. Then I painted it red and green and waited for it to dry. While it dried I drew the other design and painted it in as well. Then all I had to do was BluTack a tea light inside and make the other one. Next time I would melt down the edges of the bottle because it is pretty sharp. Here is a photo of them unlit because I'm waiting until ANZAC day to light them.

The next task I did was to make some emoji sayings, this was quite straight-forward; all I had to do was to research some common phrases and make them in emojis. Here is my slide, try and figure them out!

The last task I completed was the build your own android task. If you look at my previous post I explain the task, but here is my completed android with a full description.

That's it for today folks!

See you later!

Online School - Term 2 - Day 7

Hello Readers,

Today I have to do two blog posts again because I keep forgetting to blog! So this blog post is Thursday's work.

My first task was to describe what it meant to have brains. I tried to find a quote that really described what I wrote and I think I achieved that goal.

My second task was to make a little android using Tinkercad. All we had to do was make an android then describe how we did it using terms like reflection, translation, resizing, and reflection. I made my android but I haven't finished my description yet; this is a two-day task.

That's all for this blog post, what do you think I should name my android?

See you later for today's work!

Online School - Term 2 - Day 6

Hello Readers,

My tasks today were awesome and didn't take very long to complete.

My first was a literacy task where we had to write what courage meant to us. I used a quote from Coraline to help get my point across, here is my slide.

My other task was a math task where we made a scale model of a landmark. Yesterday I did the planning and calculations for my model and today I had to make it using Tinkercad. Yesterday was definitely more fun because I got to figure out all the maths which I found enjoyable but today I had less fun because Tinkercad is not my favorite site to use by far. Here is my model.

My last task was very fun because I got to draw. During the quarantine, I have been trying to fill up my wall with drawings of all my favorite characters from things. A few of these include Rory Gilmore, Effie Trinket, Eleanor Shellshrop, Mycroft Holmes, Princess Leia, Doctor Strange, Kermit, Squidward, Mike Wasowski, Bulbasaur, Diana Barry, Cruella De Vil, Demogorgon, Eleven, one of my best friends Kasey, and more. For the activity, I drew the Tinman from The Wizard of Oz. I tried to draw a heart-shaped indent where his heart would be. Here it is.

That's all for today! Comment if you want to see a photo of my wall!

See you later!!

Online School - Term 2 - Day 5

Hello Readers,

Today my tasks were pretty difficult, especially the literacy one because it made me think deeply.

My first task was a literacy task where we had to write down what heart meant to us. This was because we were learning about Tinman and his story. This was hard to do because it was a fairly open-ended question but it was fun to dive deeper into the story. Here is what I put.

My other task was a math task where we had to make a scale model of a famous world landmark using Tinkercad. This task was split into two parts; one today and one tomorrow. Today all we had to do was research the dimensions of our landmark and then write down the dimensions of what our scale model would be and find the scale factor. I am using Big Ben and my scale factor was 300. Come back tomorrow to see my model!

That's it for today! What does having heart mean to you?

See you later!

Online School - Term 2 - Day 4

Hello Readers,

Today's second blog post is actually today's work, which includes one math and one literacy task.

The first task I completed was a literacy task where we summarised chapters 1-4 of The Wizard of Oz. I'm going to do one of these every week so sorry for any spoilers.
Here is mine.

My second task was for maths and I made a house using Tinkercad. This fairly easy because I already knew how to calculate area and volume but Tinkercad is really difficult to use due to strange controls and a lack of user-friendly buttons, so I hope in the future we don't have to use it again. But other than that this task was pretty simple, here it is.

That's it for today folks! Have you read The Wizard Oz?

See you later!

School from Home - Term 2 - Day 3

Hello Readers,

Today I'm doing two blog posts because I forgot to blog on Friday. We had three tasks; one maths and 2 literacy.

The first task I did was my maths task where we had to calculate the area of our 2m social distancing bubble and find out what fits in it. Then I made a poster on Canva to share my work. Here it is.

The second task I did was a Wizard of Oz-inspired artwork. I started by sketching out Dorothy's shoes and dress. Then I colored it using watercolor pencils and brushed water over it so it spread. After it had dried I outlined my drawing using a pen. It was my first time using watercolor so it isn't exactly how I wanted it to be but it still looks kind of cool. I also didn't have any watercolor paper so it went all wrinkly, but here it is.

My last task was a literacy task where we had to design our own witch. We had to write a detailed backstory for the witch and then draw them. My witch is called Zara the Zebra Witch and I was inspired by my blanket because it has lots of zebras on it. I drew Cruella de Vil a few days ago so I traced that drawing because my image of Zara in my mind reminded me of her, but I made sure to change it up so that they looked Here it is.

That's all for today, who is your favorite Wizard of Oz character, mines the Scarecrow.

See you next time!

School from Home - Term 2 - Day 2

Hello Readers,

Today I only had 2 activities; one literacy and one maths. They were both pretty fun but the maths on took a lot of time due to the number of conversions I had to do.

The first task we were set was to research some movies/books that were similar to The Wizard of Oz and explain why. I chose Coraline and Alice in Wonderland because I found many similarities for both. I decorated my slides with pictures of the stories I chose so that my slide would look nicer and more colorful. Here is a photo of my slide.

The other task today was a maths task where we had to find objects around our house and estimate how long/heavy/how much they would hold and take photos next we converted the measurement. Here is my work.

That's all for today! What movie/book do you think is most similar to The Wizard of Oz?

See you next time!

School from Home - Term 2 - Day 1

Hello Readers,

The holidays are over but we are still stuck in quarantine. Today's blog post is everything I have done for school today. This includes 2 literacy tasks and one math task.

The first task is a literacy activity where we had to make a timetable for the week. I made mine with Canva and used some of the little pictures it gives you to make an underwater theme because that would make the activity more fun. I also made it very specific so that I knew exactly when to do each task. Here it is.

The next literacy task we had to do was to explain what the land of Oz would be to us. We could use pictures and words to describe how we imagined Oz. This term we are reading The Wizard of Oz and will later write an essay on it. My magical land is very strange but it is how I imagined it would look like. Here it is.

The last task is a numeracy task about the properties of shapes. We had to hunt around our house for objects then take a photo of them in order of least complex to most complex then write why we chose this order. After that, we had to take photos of the shapes individually and label their edges, faces, and vertices using google drawing. Here is mine.

That concludes this blog post for today, what have you been you to in the holidays?

See you tomorrow!

School from Home - Day 4 - Part 3: Delicious Dinner

Hello Readers,

Today's last activity was to make dinner for my family. I made chicken tenders with wedges, carrots, and peas. The chicken tenders were pre-bread-crumbed so all I had to do was cook them. I decided to make this meal because it was very easy and yummy. Here is the photo.

Firstly I put the chicken on a greased tray and put them in the oven at 210 degrees for 20 minutes. While they were in the oven I cut up the potatoes and boiled them, after they were boiled I seasoned them with chicken salt, onion salt, and garlic powder. After they were seasoned I put them in the oven with the chicken and waited for them to be cooked. While they were cooking I cut and boiled the veggies then served everything to my family. What is your favourite meal?

See you tomorrow!

School from Home - Day 4 - Part 2: Princess Leia

Hello Readers,

Today's second blog post is a drawing I did of Princess Leia from Star Wars. I have admired her since I first watched the movies because of her being a great strong female character. I drew her in the same style as I drew Eleven because it is easy to draw and looks cool. Here is my drawing.

A few things I would change are: her ears - in the movies, her ears are covered by her hair, her eyebrows - I need to move her hairline up so she can have eyebrows and a forehead, and her hands - her hands are an odd shape and it was supposed to look like her hand was on her hip but it doesn't really look like it. But other than that I'm pretty proud of the results. Who should I draw next?

See you later!
